hello.music — Coathangers (temporary title)

hello.musicHappy Thanksgiving peoples. Aryn, Greg and I converged upon Kansas City this week in real life to record some music. Working relatively quickly (almost all first takes), we hammered out this shell of a little rock tune in a mere 90 minutes. With some minor mixing I think it came together pretty nicely for a first draft.

I think I will be producing the final version of this, but certainly Aryn & Greg will contribute much more to this as we get further along. Great to be able to all play in the same room and bang around some ideas, you know, like a real band. So far so good.

  1. What do we think about adding one more A section at the top as an intro before the lyrics will come in? I think it would add a little more space. Anyone know how to copy a whole section like that and then slide the whole thing over while maintaining all edits to volume points and such in Live?

I decided to keep the little bit of talking at the top…I liked how it sounded to me. Other thoughts or ideas on this one?

  2. the only reason i think this needs another a section on the front is b\c it seems like it might be weird to simply start right away with the singing.

i plan to track some other stuff this week and hopefully write vocals unless you all would like to help write. thoughts

  3. I am really happy with how this turned out for what was like 1.5 hrs worth of recording.. I wish we could do this more. The hand claps are great, I’m glad we tripled up on those.

I think I need to buy a new mic also. This makes me want to go back and record some more.

  4. Yes I think we made the most of our time together this past weekend… I think the difference was having just a bare minimum of chord progression thought out ahead of time… gave us a rough direction instead of trying to reinvent the wheel like when we played in May. Imagine what we would come up with if we played a few times a week even…oh the possibilities.
