[...] This might also be a good place to discuss which records from last year had any lasting relevance and which might not hold up six months later. Just glancing at our list of top albums of 2006, I can already see what albums are still frequented and which ones fell by the wayside. [...]

By the way, thanks for not including the way over-hyped Arctic Monkeys.

And I will add Justin Timberlake FutureSex/LoveSounds to my albums of note.

Well played, sir. Looks like there are some new-to-me gems here I need to check out (as I am generally the slow to adopt new musics into my library).

Here are my comments:

1) I pretty much ignored the Belle and Sebastian record becuase I haven't really enjoyed their previous stuff- it always seemed a little too...cute...for me. Sounds like this one is worth checking out.

2) Neko Case- I'm not sure about this album. I bought it, loved it at first, but I rarely listen to it now. The songs are memorable, but the western-rock style seems a little lacking in energy. Perhaps that's just the style. I feel about the same with the Jenny Lewis album and never could get into it.

3) I would put Thom Yorke much higher- maybe #2 or 3. To me, it was by far the most personal and intimate record of the year and has some of the best subtle moments of any record I've heard in a while. Like the piano entrance at 3:21 in Cymbal Rush. The outro to Harrowdown Hill ("It was a slippery, slippery, slope..."). The fragile, high vocals in Atoms for Peace. The chopped up piano loop in the title track.

4) Beck- The Information. Despite have a few catchy songs, this one was a complete disappointment and went to my shelf shorly after buying. Guero was much better stylistically- the whole thing sounded like a gritty urban summer heat wave in the crossroads of American Pop and Mexico. This one has no similar cohesive direction. I will say, however, that his performance on SNL was great with the thanksgiving dinner table, and the puppets of course.

5) TV on The Radio... Wolf Like Me just might be my favorite song of the year. "I Was a Lover reminds me of what the Beta Band could have been if they were good song writers. And if the album wasn't enough, I was even more impressed when I heard the rearrangements on the world cafe interview/concert.

6) I was a little suprised you didn't include the Yeah Yeah Yeah's Show Your Bones even in the SPECIAL BONUS section. Gold Lion, Cheated Hearts, and Turn Into are great songs that easily compete with the year's best. Cheated Hearts has a good video too.

7) Beirut, Gulag Orkestar. No mention of this album? I would put it in the top ten just for standing out from the crowd, not to mention well written songs in an interesting format/style Postcard from Italy and Rhineland are my favorites.

Other worthy albums of note:
-Gnarls Barkley St. Elsewhere- deserves note for the single and the various TV costumes.
-Sufjan Stevens, The Avalanche- for the three versions of Chicago alone.
-Sia, Colour the Small One- fizzles out halfway into, but some good songs. great production.
